Met Market is certainly not JUST a grocery store. It’s a gastronome’s paradise!

Why do I covet Metropolitan Market so? Hmmm…let’s just say I love food – anything and everything to do with food. For me, Met Market caters to and gratifies every aesthetic and physical sense.

A bakery and deli greet you as you walk in the store. The bakery’s sparkling cases are filled with luscious chocolate cakes, crème-filled desserts and mosaic glazed fruit tarts, along with a plethora of gorgeous muffins, scones and breads. The deli case is an international delight with cheeses from France, meats from Germany and salads made fresh on-site.

Further along, the Met Market staff keep the produce section fully stocked with the freshest of fruits and vegetables – unusual & specialty varieties alongside your everyday ordinary russet potatoes. Don’t forget to make a pit stop at the olive bar for some sampling! Oh my goodness…and then there’s their homemade soup bar too! And salad bar! Oh…wait…and a sushi bar! A wine section to satisfy even the snootiest wine snob, seafood counter, a great health food section, a fabulous variety of teas and coffees for the caffeine driven and a kitchenware department that you may find yourself stalking complete the store.

Store signage, cleverly written and hand-drawn in chalk on blackboards are themselves works of art and change regularly. And the written staff recommendations are fabulous and dead-on helpful too.

And then there’s that little something…that little je ne sais quoi (French for “I don’t know”) that Metropolitan Market has distinguished to make your shopping experience such a satisfying pleasure. Personally, I think it’s the lighting. There’s not a fluorescent bulb to be found which makes for a cozy, inviting atmosphere.

Definitely worth a visit even if you just want a latte from their coffee bar or a bag of chips to snack on!
