Jacob's Review:
We went to the Coryell County Museum. They have an old cowboy jail here, it's made out of wood - and there is even a trap door. But I was "arrested" and put in the jail cell and I tried but I couldn't 'escape' out of it. The whole jail building is inside another building. They have a lot of other old cowboy stuff there - spurs and saddles and other things - and there is an upstairs you can go to where they have other rooms with things from other houses and businesses. It's really cool if you like old things.
Dad's Notes:
A nice little museum, along with the interesting jail from the 1800's, they also have a doctor's office, gas station display, kitchen appliance display, a schoolroom, post office, old fashion soda fountain shop and display depicting Camp Hood. The museum also is home to a large spur collection. Gatesville is known as the Spur Capital of Texas. Lloyd Mitchell collected spurs for 77 years and his collection can be seen at the Coryell County Museum. Outside North Fort Hood (also called Camp Hood or North Fort) is the town of Gatesville. This museum, a park and the Drive in are the main attractions - and of course the drive around the North side of Belton Lake (including a bridge)!
