Dad's Notes:
Upper Park: This is the nature area Jacob is talking about. A hiking area and Nature trail, right in Killeen/Belton just below Belton Dam. It is within walking distance of a Belton Lake campground. No bicycles allowed, but there are bike trails just south of the park. The plateau is impressive and goes down into a canyon. Local boy scouts have done a good job making the trails.
You can see really different types of terrain on this walk such as a plateau, forests and cliffs. Look close to see fossils within the sea floor rocks!
Rock climbing by permit only (has bolted routes). for permit info call the Army Corps of Engineers at number below.
Lower Park: Picnic tables overlooking scenic river pools, fishing, some unmarked trails, and some limited primitive camping sites.
