Jacob's Review:
The Museum was alot of fun! It isn't just paintings like you think. They have cartoons from Japan to watch, and cool statues, and all kinds of things. I wanted to get earrings for my Mom, but Dad didn't buy it because it is priceless. I like some off the paintings too, especially the one of the boats by the painter Stuart Davis.
Dad's Notes:
The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston is massive. I'm sure we will return soon, as one day was not enough to see it all. I was concerned that the museum might not be interactive enough to hold Jacob's attention, but when we arrived we were offered a "family pack" of puzzles and games to play inside the museum that really helped us to enjoy our visit. When we wanted to rest our feet, we watched a film, and had lunch in the outdoor sculpture garden.
As much as I appreciate the artwork, I spent most of my day observing Jacob's reactions to it. Predictably, he was drawn to the paintings featuring the brightest colors, and Frederic Remington's cowboy paintings. Surprisingly he was fascinated by the artifacts and design pieces on display. I was amazed at his fascination with an ancient Mayan vase, a pair of two thousand year old earrings, and several pieces of furniture. When we returned home, he gave himself a tour looking for art among our household items. I highly recommend a visit to the Museum of Fine Arts to any family. It is sure to be a fascinating day, and likely to inspire the creative side of both child and parent.
