Dad's Notes:
Beautiful pink granite outcroppings, a sharp contrast to the usual tan limestone sea floor type rocks seen in eastern parts of Texas.
Hiking trails, camping, fishing pier, swimming and swimmin holes - complete with lounging cliffs and rocks. Short falls and some great fishing! A boat ramp, playground, canoes, paddleboats & Highland Lakes (9 hole) golf course adjacent Inks Lake.
The drive from Burnet is through the heart of the Texas Hill country and very scenic, look for cactus, neat trees, and giant Yucca looking plants. And as you crest the peak near the lake stop at the scenic view site - just below it (you can't see) is Devils Water Hole were locals can be seen jumping off the low cliffs (fun, but not recommended). Firewood bundles sold at the park store ($3) or bring your own. The park store has basic necessities and some nice gifts souvenirs.
You can also visit the nearby Inks Dam National Fish Hatchery, 512-793-2474, M-F 7:30a - 4p closed holidays and weekends, Park road 4-6 miles from 29W.
