Dad's Notes:
Originally a ranch home of one of the wealthiest Texas pioneers, some interesting Texas history lessons here. The falls and river trail are the main reasons to go to this lovely park. Also, don't miss the walk down the Smith Rock shelter trail, a shelter used by people over 1,400 years ago. Fields of bluebonnets, up close wildlife to include rabbit, deer, birds of all types - even armadillo can be seen here.
Plenty of camping available here - but as most camping sites - book well in advance. Close to Austin and it's beauty attract a fair number of visitors, visit during the week or off season to really appreciate it with a bit of solitude.
Besides the 2 separate falls and ruins, there is hiking, mountain biking, road biking, picnicking, fishing, bouldering, and wildlife observation are other activities. A pretty swimming hole similar to Hamilton springs, swimming is now allowed in Onion Creek; call for current creek conditions.
You can rent screened shelters, all camp sites have water and electricity, RV sites available as well.
