Dad's Notes:
A large, unimproved cave ready for your exploration. No improvements or lights in the cave, in fact the climb into the cave is a jumble of rocks and is a workout! It is dark and dusty in the cave, wear good hiking shoes or tennies, and some old knock around jeans. If you want to picnic I would do it at the picnic site at the bottom before or after climbing about a mile up to the cave. There are stone steps laid for most of the trail, it is a shady, pretty but a steep climb.
Very neat cave, great ‘exploring’ family adventure! (but not for little kids - some parts are steep). Try turning all the lights off - it is darker than you have ever experienced! Bring water, good flashlights, I recommend a lantern and Jacob say’s to bring a laser pointer.
A trip to Coronado Cave takes about two hours round trip (including time spent in the Cave). Be sure to get a free permit (obtained at Visitor Center) before going to the Cave.
